Baptisms

A baptism or christening is a special service to welcome your child into the wider Christian family. A baptism can be prearranged with the Rector and usually takes place during the main 9.30am service on a Sunday where friends, family and members of the congregation come together to celebrate the gift of life.

What is a baptism?

A baptism is the start of a person's journey with God. At a baptism service you as parents are thanking God for the gift of life and welcoming your child into the wider Christian family. It is a way of acknowledging that we are turning our back on evil and entering into fellowship with God.

What happens during the service?

The baptism usually takes place during the main Sunday service at 9.30am after consultation with the Rector. This is so your child may be welcomed into the church family. Additionally the church agrees to pray for and support your child. At various stages during the service the Rector will invite the child, parents and chosen godparents to the front, but you will be briefed and guided throughout the service.
