Unlike our sister churches in Tixall and Ingestre, St. John's does not have as long a history. However for the 82 years that the church has been built, it has certainly seen many changes and almost never got built at all!
Vice Chair: Mrs. Helen Dart
The PCC is the church's governing body which is elected by any member of the parish who is on the church's Electoral Roll. The PCC meets every month to decide on policies and issues. The Rector chairs the PCC but does not have any special powers of veto. The two church wardens automatically have a right to sit on the PCC. Other officials such as the PCC Secretary and PCC Treasurer are elected from amongst the PCC members. Each member is usually elected for a term of 3 years.
The Standing Committee meets every week and consists of core leaders within the church such as the Rector, Curate, church wardens, lay ministers and any other official invited by the Rector. The committee is not an established body and cannot make important decisions in place of the PCC. The committee is usually to allow the church leaders to discuss ideas and needs which then can be placed before the PCC.
The Fabric Committee is responsible for the maintenance of the church building and grounds and is currently chaired by one of the church wardens. The Fabric Committee usually carries out low-level maintenance and presents major proposals to the PCC for approval.
The World Focus Group plays an important part in the church and is responsible for raising awareness of people and places in the world which are suffering and organising events or collections to support them. The WFG has raised thousands of pounds over the years for various causes and has offered a great deal of support to local charities. The WFG organises the Christian Aid collection each year as well as having supported WaterAid, Katharine House Hospice and other vital causes.
Formerly part of the Social Committee, the Open Doors Group is responsible for integrating the church into the local community and organising social events within the parish.
